The BioACL

Biologic ACL reconstruction — using your body's own healing biology, modern graft fixation, and internal brace support to optimize the environment for your new ligament. Dr. Mitchell brings this innovation to patients in Wisconsin and across the Midwest.

What Is the BioACL?

The BioACL is a biologically augmented approach to anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction. In addition to reconstructing the torn ligament with a graft, the procedure enhances the graft with bone marrow aspirate concentrate (cells and growth factors drawn from your own bone marrow), demineralized bone matrix, and autograft bone, and reinforces it with an internal brace suture tape — all aimed at creating a better healing environment for the new ligament.1,2

Soft-Button TightRope® Fixation

Rather than rigid metal hardware, the graft is secured with a low-profile, adjustable-loop cortical button. Published studies show reliable fixation and graft integration with outcomes comparable to traditional screw fixation3 — and Dr. Mitchell has co-authored biomechanical research on optimizing graft preparation for this type of suspensory fixation.4

Is It Right for You?

Every ACL injury — and every athlete — is different. Graft choice, biologic augmentation, and fixation strategy are decisions made together with Dr. Mitchell during your evaluation, based on your injury pattern, age, sport, and goals. Request an appointment to discuss whether the BioACL is an option for you.
